Memorials

Choosing a memorial is one of the most personal and enduring decisions you or members of your family will ever make. A monument is a reflection of personal taste, but it is also the way an individual is remembered for generations. The photographs in our gallery demonstrate our personalized service to produced memorials that are located in numerous cemeteries in southern Manitoba.

Our team will work with you and/or your family in person, on the phone or by email to provide a quote and then proceed to the design process. Block Stoneworks is proud to offer design services with access to unlimited fonts and graphic image options for your memorial. Our graphic image library is extensive and we also offer one of a kind hand drawn images to ensure that your vision for the memorial design is exactly what is delivered.

Block Stoneworks memorials are sandblasted by hand at our Morden facility. Sandblasting is the traditional technique used to remove polish and form grooves in the granite to create text and designs. This is achieved by forcibly propelling a stream of abrasive material against the granite surface under high pressure. Images on the memorial are sandblasted, hand etched and/or hand engraved. We are proud to work with local artisans who hand etch or engrave some of the final images on our memorials.

Upright Memorials

Upright headstones are known for their traditional, tall, freestanding design and are the memorial of choice. These memorials stand upright on a base and are the same thickness top to bottom. There are a number of other size options with shaped facets that we stock as well as the ability to special order a colour, size or shape of your choice. Upon viewing all the upright options in this photo gallery you will see the abundance of options available. Common upright memorial sizes are 24″x20″, 30″x20″ and 36″x24″.

Pillow Markers

Pillow markers are sloped to the front and can be placed directly on a foundation or with a base. There are a variety of colour options available and these memorials can offer up to three surfaces for text and/or graphics. Common sizes are 12″x12″, 20″x10″,24″x12″, 30″x12″ and 36″x12″.

Slant Memorials

Slant headstones are wedge shaped, installed on a base and foundation. Typical sizes for slant products are 36″x18″ or 30″x 18″ and 24″x18″.

Grass Markers

Grass markers, are flat granite rectangles installed flush to the ground. Many families choose to self install these memorials as the size of these is manageable for one or two people to carry them to the final resting site. We will provide you with installation instructions if you choose to install your own memorial. Grass markers are available in three sizes: 16″x 8″ or 20″x 10″ and 24″x 12″.

Rocks

Natural rocks are option to memorialize a beloved member of your family. The rock selection is the challenging part of this project as it must have a flat non porous surface. Some rocks are provided by the customer and others are purchased from our inventory. Our sandblasted stones are produced on site and will last a lifetime.

Tribute Benches

There are two options when considering a tribute bench.

The “relax” cedar bench is our Made in Morden option. The bench is our design, with mold preparation made at our shop and they are manufactured at Block Stoneworks. These six feet long benches are made with dry aged cedar from British Columbia with three coat of natural colour stain. We stock all the components and are ready to assemble them with both pickup or delivery options available. They are available with or without a plaque.
The granite bench is four feet long and available with three colour combinations. Grey granite back/seat, black granite back/seat and a combination with a black coloured back and grey seat.

Custom Rock Memorials — This rock was in our collection at Block Stoneworks. Hours of polishing revealed the black area that worked well for this design.

Custom Memorials — This rock was delivered to Block Stoneworks from another province to prepare this memorial.

Custom Garden Rock Memorials — Another rock from the yard of the family. After polishing the surface it became the design inspiration for this memorial.

Custom Garden Rock Farm Stead — This rock was located at the original farmstead and the flat smooth surface was the perfect surface.

Custom Garden Rock — This rock was a favourite family garden stone and became the design inspiration for a memorial.
